Olympus Releases Powerseal Open Extended Jaw Sealer/Divider In U.S., Canada

Olympus has fully launched its Powerseal open extended jaw sealer/divider in the U.S. and Canada. The device is indicated for use in colorectal, gynecological, thoracic, urological, and vascular surgeries.

The Powerseal open extended jaw sealer/divider is designed for one-handed operation, allowing surgeons to use their other hand for other tasks. Its design supports secure tip grasping and coagulation while reducing hand fatigue and improving ergonomics, according to the company.

The device, which earned FDA 510(k) clearance earlier this year, seals vessels up to 7 mm, including pulmonary vessels, tissue bundles, and lymphatics, with a jaw coating designed to reduce tissue sticking. Its curved, tapered tip supports dissection, access, and visualization in tight spaces, while a proximal rotation wheel enables smooth one-handed operation with reduced squeeze force for jaw closure and blade actuation.

The new Powerseal device sealer/divider expands the Powerseal 5mm portfolio and is powered by the ESG-410 surgical energy platform, which supports multiple energy modes. It’s also compatible with the ESG-400 platform.
